In addition to his generic therapy practice at The Wainwright Centre, John works as a therapist at The Cavendish Centre for Cancer Care, a charitable centre in Sheffield, England, that offers a range of complementary therapies for people whose lives are affected by cancer, whether as patients, family, or carers.
John, a son of the manse, was a probation officer before training in Clinical Hypnosis. He has always been in the business of helping people improve their lives, but it was the impact of cancer in his own circle of family and friends that led John to join the team at the Cavendish Centre, and to specialise in helping people with cancer.
People whose lives are affected by cancer often need extra help to deal with the physical, psychological and emotional effects of their illnesses and the treatments. Almost invariably this includes dealing better with stress in one form or another, and often there can be associated problems such as sleep disorders, phobias and pain to contend with, or the distress of dealing with persistent unwanted thoughts, or the effects of traumatic stress or depression. To aid the work at the Cavendish Centre John has developed a series of specialised audio programmes for cancer patients and their families and carers to use at home.
